She has been a staff photographer for Nashoba Publishing since 2008, covering events in Groton, Harvard, Ayer, Pepperell, Townsend, Shirley, and Devens.

The 2010 International Photography Awards (IPA) announced the winners of their annual competition. With entries from over 103 countries and 15,000 submissions, Karen was awarded an Honorable Mention in the Nature-Wildlife category for the winning entry titled "Backyard Beauty." The Foundation's mission is to honor master photographers, to discover new and emerging talent and to promote the appreciation of photography. Since 2003, IPA has had the privilege and opportunity to acknowledge and recognize contemporary photographers' accomplishments in this specialized and highly visible competition.
In Philadelphia, in the late 1980’s, Karen had two photography exhibits – one in the Bourse Building near Independence Hall and one at an art studio on South Street.
While living and working in Pennsylvania, Karen’s work was recognized in local photography contests:
